Facebook post costs waitress her job…oh dear.

Here's a shitty little story to warm the cockles of your heart. Well warm the cockles of your heart if you are a raging scumbucket with no actual heart having replaced it with the cold shiny metal of a cash tin. It's also a salutary story about the potential outcome of status updates on the old Facebook. I don't really need to worry though as most of mine are related to what I'm about to eat, what I am eating and what I want to eat. Nice. So unless the butcher or the fine people at Kelloggs wants to keep their products on the hush hush I don't really have anything to worry about.

From the National Post:

Facebook post costs waitress her job

A waitress at a pizza joint in Charlotte, N.C., was fired from her job after she ranted on her Facebook page about a couple of bad tippers, the Charlotte Observer reports.

Ashley Johnson, 22, was working at Brixx Pizza when a couple came in for lunch and stayed for three hours, which forced her to stay long past her shift’s end. The couple left only a $5 tip, which Ms. Johnson thought was a measly amount:

Ms. Johnson did what most folks who need a good rant do nowadays. When she got home, she went on Facebook. “Thanks for eating at Brixx,” she wrote, “you cheap piece of s— camper.”

Two days after, her manager called her in, showed her a copy of her Facebook comments and told her she was being fired because she broke company policy against criticizing customers. Brixx Pizza also has a policy against casting the restaurant in a negative light on social networks.

Ms. Johnson apologized for her bad judgement.

Shit mittens! The lot of them! People vent after work do they not? They blow of a little steam, get it out of their system. And I know how she she felt. You get a table that basically sets up home in your section thus taking up valuable real estate and reducing what you can earn from that table. You can live with this if you get rewarded accordingly. And anyhoo, who the hell sits in a pizzeria for three god damned hours? What's up with that campers? And another thing, how sensitive must the restaurant be that they fired her? Insecure much?

Her only mistake was to apologise. Apologise my ass! I would have gone the other way, very the other way. They would have had to get the peelers in to get me out the office and when I got home I would have been a Facebooking machine. I would have been status updating everything I knew about that place and probably a few thousand things I just made up on the spot.

Brixx Pizza? What a bunch of shit munchers. Their motto is, "Get fired up." Clearly...

I hears ya Grant…sorry Phil…I dunno which is which any more…oh come back tomorrow night as you get yer questioned answered…

She should have seen it coming. Regardless of how she thought she had just cause she doesn’t own the business. The people who own/run the business don’t want customers potentially put off going there lest they be blog fodder.
Unlike you she stupidly posted her comment on a Facebook page with her name and the name of the restaurant. She must be living in a bubble not to realise that posting something like that on Facebook might have repercussions. Anybody who uses a computer and allows their boss to see their Facebook comments deserves to have their fingers chopped off. Luckily she just lost her job.
    I know, I know, I’m all heart.

    • Manuel says:

her facebook profile was set to private so nobody but her friends could have seen that update. She was ratted out by one of these. The chances of an actual punter seeing it was slim…if she had gone for a drink with a friend after work and had been venting in the bar would that have been better? I see no difference in either…

    • Manuel says:

oh and you are all heart…but I didn’t expect anything else…[mumbles about tories and leopards changing their spots]

  4. Phil not Grant says:

But sure everyone knows Manuel works in *******?

  5. not twitter says:

If she said it in a bar to the same colleague who dossed her in then she’d still have broken the company policy of not criticizing customers.
Just about all companies have the same clauses in contracts and in law it’s accepted there are non-specific implied terms of employment like fidelity, obedience and confidentiality.
So technically just about everybody that’s ever worked for a business could be sacked for the same reasons.

Isn’t the bad guy in this story her waiter chum rather than the employer? Her fellow waiter put a blade in her back.

p.s. Just because I couldn’t stand One Eye, Meddlesome, Balls (no need to change that one) and the Millys doesn’t mean I’m a Conservative supporter. Libs probably would’ve got mine had we had that choice in these parts.

  6. Kelly says:

This is going to be me one day. But at that stage, I’ll not give a toss about my job anymore, and probably consider it a favour when they fire me. Still, I hope I’d be smarter about it.

  7. White Rabbit says:

Poor girl. It’s not as if she has customers added on her Facebook like is it?

  8. savannah says:

the interesting thing to me is that the pizza joint has now gotten far worse publicity because the story has gone public! the smarter thing to do would have been to quietly chastise her, remind her of company policy regarding social networks and that would have been the end of it! zero tolerance is a lose-lose situation when it comes to managing people or writing law/legislation. a good reminder that everybody is not your friend. xoxoxo

  9. Stephan says:

She apologized???? WTF?!?!?! Oh well, the good news is now that she’s been fired she can really rip Brixx a new asshole! I would be on my Facebook page every day posting about how I once saw a cook jack off into the pizza dough, that the managers pick their noses with the breadsticks, the “pepperoni” is really hardened old baloney, etc, etc….

    • Manuel says:

Exactly! I’d be slandering the shit out of them all over the place….creating new fake accounts and just letting rip….assholes…

  10. Joe Schmo says:

Just right too. They should sue her lazy ass. More time working and less time on facebook. Hahahaha but I suppose it’s the other way round now.

    Take that buddy!

  11. Ruth Crean says:

Firstly shame on those people who made her stay late, it’s the rule if you are the last in the restaurant, get the fuck out, people wanna go home. (actually if you are the even the second last get out cos you’re probably in a waiting stalemate with the other table)

Secondly, shit friend!! Who the fuck does that….good reason to ‘unfriend’ and then kill them.

Thirdly, Stephen is right, a small incident has now turned into a shit storm.

On a side note, I don’t bitch about the restaurant I work in on facebook because it’s true not everyone is actually your friend. There are days I wanna bitch about the lady who lets her kid eat it’s body weight in sugar and grease and then they wonder why they puke on the table….but I don’t.Only cos I need to pay they rent, and THE MAN has me by the balls (just a little)

    • Manuel says:

Welcome Ruthy…can I call you Ruthy? Yeah her “friend” is a shit that needs flushed. And if you have stories you want to share then send them to me and I’ll blog them anonymously for you….

  12. Sparky says:

Eating pizza for THREE HOURS? Was it a six footer? I think I`d need to vent as well, but then to be ratted out by a friend? ¡Ay, caramba!

  13. Joe Schmo says:

You know I was only joking right?

  14. Phil not grant says:

Oh Manny, did you not used to work in a pizza fast food joint? You know the type with garlic flavored spray and all? What is the etiquette over pizza eating time?

  15. albarin blanco says:

Maybe she was just a crap waitress to begin with and deserved her lot.

    • Manuel says:

and if that was the case why didn’t they just fire her for that then and save themselves the bad publicity eh? oh and welcome mr blanco….
