It’s Here! National Waiter Day 2010!

Good Times!

Yes it's National Waiter Day 2010 and all the waiters, chums of waiters and to a lesser extent waiters families are as excited as doe-eyed children on christmas morning. So don't piss on our chips, be nice and follow the essential rules to dining success - EAT, PAY, TIP, LEAVE.

So today I would like to hear about the times a waiter has really touched you and I mean touch you emotionally as opposed to inappropriately although I would be keen to hear some of those stories too.

Waiters, truly a great bunch of lads. We bring you the stuff you order....mostly.

Best waiter story has to be from a multiple-birthday celebration with sisters, then-boyfriends, moms, etc in the late 80s…our waiter was a university student studying opera, and was so totally cool! We asked if he ever sang theme songs from tv shows, and he proceeded to demonstrate with operatic flair. For the entire meal, he sang at funny intervals, and there wasn’t an obscure cartoon he couldn’t opera the theme song to (including Rocket Robinhood & The Wizard of Oz)…it was awesome! After paying the bill and tipping handsomely, my sister and I each added $20 on top of that! Really fun :)

Yes, you sure are. And having been in the industry for many years as a server/bartender (in establishments of repute, and some of ill repute), I can totally relate. Three cheers and a pile of tips to all! Happy international waiters’ day to you!

I will be out tomorrow with my tipping pocket but can’t say where…yet.

My most awesomenest waiter was a girlfriend who worked in a restaurant.
She rang me from the restaurant one night and asked if I was hungry. When I got there it was very quiet and she sat me in a secluded area. Nothing pornographic happened but it was an interesting and amusing meal.
It certainly built up the anticipation for when I picked her up from work later.
Insert your own tip jokes and cue the double entendres. Oops, there’s one.

Now, a waiter with your years of experience must have a story or two to tell…

In the last 7 days I gave many Madrid-based waiters much hassle with my complete lack of any Spanish or knowledge of their dishes. There was a lot of pointing at words on menus and attempts to make them understand, and understand what they were saying. Some were very nice though. The beer was cheap.

well, poo. here i sit in my cotton underpants and a worn out “bullwinkle” sweatshirt eating a half-gallon of ice cream, when i should be out sprinkling cash on the waiter corps… eh. tomorrow at lunch, i’ll be a little extra nice…

In honour of this important occasion, I promise that on my upcoming holiday, I will tip embarrasingly well. Even though I’m Australian, and it apparently goes against our nature. Will it hurt, Manuel? Will it?

  9. hey happy waiter day! may you not get the table with the screaming kid!

Just after Christmas we stayed here (http://www.ardtara.com/) for our Wedding Anniversary. Its a small Country House with an amazing waiter / bar man all round legend. He is called Brianaslav and happily shortens it to Brian for the country folk. An absolute expert at his job, putting you at ease, pulling tables up to the fire when you come down for a pre dinner drink, proffering nibbles, making great drinks and wine reccomendations – he was flawless. We tipped generously when we left and are already keen to go back, because of him (and the gorgeous food).

I’m staying in and sending the missus out for a jolly tonight with her mates. I’ll tell her to tip extra (but not TOO extra!).

    Happy Waiter’s Day!

Happy waiters day everyone, may your pockets be bulging with the musical notes of a thousand tips

  14. happy waiters day fella!

well, i celebrated by eating lunch out with fella + kid who was very well-behaved, although he did get a bit overwarm and end up sitting just in his pants. (Child, not fella). We didn’t make too much mess though and I left a handsome tip for the handsome waiter.

have a good day and try not to hate pacman for stealing your google thunder. And cherries.

    Cheers, Manuel.
Hope your pockets bulged at the end of the Waiter’s Day shift.
